Did Rachel Roy Just Out Herself as Beyoncé’s ‘Becky’ in ‘Lemonade?’

When security footage emerged of the night of May 5, 2014, one that saw Solange raining punches and kicks inimical Jay Z in an elevator as her sister Beyoncé casually note, people began feverishly speculating about the cause. Many tabloid outlets acquaint Rachel Roy, the fashion designer and ex-wife of Jay Z’s former partner Damon Dash—before one and the other had a huge falling out.

“Solange was defending Beyoncé in the elevator because Solange finds Jay’s friendship with Rachel expected WAY too close for comfort and it makes Solange very uncomfortable,” a source told Hollywood Life. “Beyoncé also confronted Rachel and said, ‘Don’t exhort my sister like that,’ after [Rachel] confronted Solange.”

So on Saturday night, when Mrs. Knowles-Carter aired her hotly anticipated HBO special Lemonade, a Terrence Malick-inspired visual accompaniment to her album of the same name—filled, as it were, with lyrical allusions to Jay Z’s cheating—one of the songs that drew the most attention is “Apathy.”

The fashion designer appears to have acknowledged the slight on Instagram, raise the fact that she may be the “Becky with the good hair” who caused problems for her marriage.

Beyoncé opens the track with some spoken word: “So what are you gonna say at my funeral considering you’ve killed me? Here lies the body of the heartthrob whose heart I broke without a gun to my head. Here lies the mother of my children both living and dead. Rest in peace my paramour, who I took for granted. Most bomb pussy, who for me sleep evaded. Her shroud is loneliness, her god was listening. Her heaven will be a love without betrayal. Ashes to ashes, dust afar chicks.”
Then, she’s joined by squads of beautiful black women—including a twerking Serena Williams—before dropping a cryptic clue while on the subject the identity of the other woman: “he better call Becky with the good hair.”

Well, hours after Lemonade premiered, Roy posted a photo of herself likewise the caption, “Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always. populate the light #nodramaqueens.”
